Melvin Blakely Jr.Melvin T. Blakely Jr. a twenty-year veteran police officer/community activist and native of Gary, Indiana, has developed an impressive resume in the police business and in life.

Melvin grew up in the midtown area near 25th and Broadway and graduated in 1990 from Gary Roosevelt High and currently resides in South Bend, Indiana. Melvin studied Criminal Justice/Public Safety Management at Calumet College of Saint Joseph where he received a B.A. In 2011, Melvin was awarded The Indiana University Northwest Diversity Friendship Award. In April of 1999, Melvin also received his greatest honor in performing the security duty over the late great Coretta Scott King. Mrs. King was the keynote speaker for the Terre Haute YWCA 13th Annual Women to Women banquet.

Melvin established Toys Foundation in 2009, which is headquartered in St. Louis, MO. This community base organization would produce events that would reach our youth in the urban communities. Melvin has hosted special events like Police and Fireman Charity Games, Youth Symposiums, Adult and Youth Police Academies, Charity Concerts, and Stop the Violence Conferences.
